Replacement of ozone depletion with alternative refrigerants in refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.
Ozone depletion in the atmosphere from CFC and HCFC refrigerants, containing chlorine atoms in the molecule, imposed ban on production of certain substances and to limit use of other refrigerants in refrigeration and air conditioning. This necessitated the need to replace them with alternative refrigerants in new and existing installations.
Environmental requirements for refrigerants include:
ODP - ozone depletion potential;
GWP - global warming potential.
